Ángel Cabrera the Argentine Pick For The Masters 2015

Argentine professional golfer Ángel Cabrera also known as “El Pato” (“The Duck”) in English because of his duck like walk is a two time Major Champion. He is the only golfer from Argentina who has won the U.S. Open and the Masters.

At the age of ten Cabrera joined the Córdoba Country Club as a caddy and developed a passion for the game. He is known for his interesting personality and part of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.

In 2007 at the US open he proved his efficiency by winning the title at Oakmont Country Club scoring five over par. He was not intimidated by the presence of golf tycoons like Jim Furyk and Tiger Woods as competitors.

Cabrera once said that there are some players that have psychologists and for him it is his cigarettes. In 2009 he again showed people that he did not win the US open in a fluke and won the Masters tournament that year in a three-way sudden-death playoff against Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell. Before the tournament his rank was 69th which made him the lowest-ranked golfer to win the Masters. He also has the Greenbrier Classic title to his name which he won in West Virginia on 6 July 2014.

His two sons Federico and Ángel are also professional golfers. Federico entered the PGA tour but got eliminated in the second rounds and Ángel is participating in the Canadian tour. Unfortunately 25 year old Ángel got involved in a major car accident causing the death of his passenger this month. He was driving a Chevy Camero when he lost his control and drove off a bridge, submerging into water. He was admitted with serious fractures.
Cabrera may not be a prominent choice for the Masters this year but if you want to root for a dark horse he is the obvious choice.

Phil Mickelson finished his Masters stroke with 70

Phil Mickelson took two bad blotches with him to the 1st tee earlier on Thursday.

He blocked off one, and might be on his way to finishing the 2nd. Phil, highlighted by an 278-yard three-wood which fixed a tap-in eagle at the par-five 8th hole, opened the seventy ninth Masters with a two-under-par seventy. Dating to the 1st round of the Masters 2013, Mickelson’s last 5 rounds at Augusta National, till Thursday, had all been over par. He escaped the cut here previous year, for just the 2nd time.

Phil, who required thirty three putts, told that he hit the ball very well that day. He really did not got anything going on the greens. It was a good way to start the event. He feels great with the way the game is, and if he could, over the course of the next 3 days, get hot with the putter a time or two, he would probably be able to make a run.

High finishes and runs have been missing from Phil’s game for some time. Since winning the Open Championship in 2013, he has no titles. Worse – he has earned just a top-Ten finish in his last thirtyone PGA Tour beginnings, a streak which started with a tie for forty first at the Deutsche Bank Championship 2013 at TPC Boston. The only top-Ten since then was a runner-up at previous year’s PGA Championship.

His seventy left Phil tied for twelfth after the 1st day, 6 shots behind leader Jordan Spieth. But the 3-time Masters champ appeared very encouraged. Phil said that if he carry on to hit the ball like this he would have a number of scopes. Eventually you have to get hot on the greens.

Adam Scott looking for missing link in game

For a time last year, whatever Adam Scott touched turned into gold. The Aussie became the world number one, won a major event, had ten finishes in the top ten and his cut streak extended to a whopping 44 events but he is looking for a lot more from his game.
The US PGA Tour season of the Australian ended on a decent enough note as he finished at ninth in the Tour Championship, but it is not quite close to the top as he would want to be and it also means he will be spending his off season looking to improve his game.
Despite the good results he had this year, Scott, who is currently ranked at second in the world behind Rory McIlroy feels that he left a lot out on the course and he didn’t make full use of the opportunities that presented itself.
Adam Scott stated that he was expecting a lot more from his game this year. The 2013 Masters champion also said that he has played better golf than the results are showing and he wants to prove the doubters wrong.
He went on to add that he will find out the reasons behind his failings this year and find a remedy and that is what he plans to do between now and the end of the year. He admits that he needs to do a lot better.
Scott witnessed the likes of McIlroy and Martin Kaymer win major titles by playing an aggressive brand of golf and according to Adam Scott, he will look to play with a lot more freedom as he believes everything is there in his game and all he has to do is put them together and find the missing link that will help him succeed in the future.

It might be smiling fate for Matt Kuchar at the U.S Open

Matt Kuchar stood to the 18th green as he was unable to clinch it by a lead of four- shot. This happened in April at the Houston Open. So a very abrupt closing to the playoff. After seven days Kuchar lead Masters share but not before a putt of four in the fourth hole at the Augusta National.

At the RBC Heritage with four shots he won the trophy from his own lead in which there was a bunker shot that managed to reach into a hole of number 18. For him golfing god exists as whatever goes around comes around too. Everything will be going his way if he selects the shots properly. So it might happen that in U.S Open too he gets good results.

He has the potential as from the beginning of 2010 his finish top 10 from 46 is astounding. So much that it has set new standards at the Tour of PGA as he has 9 extra than anyone. He has managed to win 5 five and at the elite stops three. Kuchar easily fits among the players of the Open championships. He is yet in search of his first major title but given the fact that he is young with elegant striker of the ball so there will be no shock when the win comes.

Brandel Chamblee asserted that he has full faith that this season Kuchar is going to win the U.S Open title. He is playing really well this season so there should not be any reason for him to slow down his progress. It has been 17 years since being an amateur that time he has won it. This time it will be his confident turn around in the major.

Great News For Lee Westwood

Great news for Lee Westwood fans- the leading English Westwood golfer has been confirmed for the upcoming Scottish Open tournament.

Along with Westwood, Darren Clarke has also been confirmed for the prestigious tournament to be hosted at Royal Aberdeen. Scottish Open 2014 is scheduled to take place from 10th to 13th July and would feature some of the best names from golf such as Jimmy Walker, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson, apart from Clarke and Westwood.

Westwood was naturally delighted with the confirmation of his participation at the esteemed golf tournament this July. It would be his 1st appearance in Scottish Open after 3 years and he admitted that he is eagerly waiting to play at it.

“I am really glad to get confirmed for this tournament and have been eagerly waiting to play here”, said the 40 year old golfer. “It’s a course that I’ve never got a chance to play at and hence it’s surely going to be a major challenge. I’ve heard excellent things about the course.”
“I feel that it would be a great place to prep up for Open championship & this is one among the major reasons why I have decided to bounce back this year”, Westwood added in.
Clarke is trying hard to get back to his glorious form of late and akin to Westwood, he too is delighted to play at the tournament. “It’s true that I adore links golf”, remarked Clarke.

“So to get the opportunity to play at some new links golf course on Euro Tour Schedule seems to be really thrilling for me. It’s more special because Scottish Open is such an event which is really close to my heart. The golf fans of Scotland are really knowledgeable & it has been a pleasure, always, to get back to this esteemed event.”

Lee Westwood happy with form

English golfer and former world number one Lee Westwood has confirmed that he has split from swing coach Sean Foley as he bids to rekindle his form and mount a fresh challenge to make it to the European Team for the Ryder Cup in September this year.

The 40 year old has had an unbelievable fall from grace in the last one and half years, first losing his top spot and then managing to drop out of the top ten completely and he currently languishes as 35th in the latest rankings of golf.

And that makes it even more difficult for him to secure his place in the European Team for the Ryder Cup especially with the likes of Harris English as well as several others doing great on Tour. Westwood acknowledged that fact and admitted that he will have to work doubly hard to make it into the team but knows how difficult it is going to be.

The one good sign perhaps that is surely helping Westwood get back some of his confidence is his performance at the Honda Classic recently where he managed scores of 68 and 65 in the opening two rounds before falling behind in the latter stages.

But the fact that he is hitting the ball with a lot more precision and penetration and getting the requisite distance is sure to encourage him further as he looks to build momentum ahead of the Masters tournament in a few weeks’ time in Augusta.

Strangely, the veteran who has not missed a Ryder Cup event since first being selected in 1997 has never won a major title in his career and that will also drive him towards perfection this season as he looks to finally break a duck that has been a hard pill to swallow.
